About our Family

My wife Alysha and I have been married for 16 years and are proud to call Brookings County home. Together we are raising our five children, Carson, Grady, Tenley, Porter, and Bristol, while staying actively involved in our community, schools, and church. Alysha teaches at Volga Christian School and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree while balancing family life and supporting the demands that come with a law enforcement career.

Brookings has also been a meaningful part of Alysha’s life since childhood. Her grandparents, Glen and Doreen Nachtigal, lived in Brookings for decades, and many of her summers were spent here with family, building the strong connection to this community that continues today.

I grew up in Union County and moved to Brookings County after completing my active duty service in the United States Air Force, where I served as a Staff Sergeant in Security Forces. When my enlistment ended, Sheriff Marty Stanwick gave me the opportunity to continue serving in law enforcement with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, and that opportunity helped shape the future of our family. Over the years, we have built our lives around service, hard work, faith, and strong community values. Outside of law enforcement, I spent several years trying my hand at farming by raising pigs, cattle, and goats while also putting up hay before eventually deciding to focus full time on my career and family.

Alysha and I

Alysha and I understand the importance of family, hard work, and community because those values have shaped our lives from the very beginning. Whether it has been balancing long hours in law enforcement, raising five children, supporting local schools, or staying involved in the community, we have always believed in showing up for others and giving back to the county we are proud to call home. Brookings County has given our family incredible opportunities, and my goal is to continue serving this community with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to protecting the people and values that make it special.

Raising Five Children

Our family may not always take the perfect picture, but this photo probably represents us better than any posed portrait ever could. Life in a household with five kids is busy, loud, unpredictable, and full of moments that keep us laughing. Through all of it, Alysha and I have worked hard to raise our children with the same values that guide our lives every day: faith, kindness, responsibility, respect for others, and a willingness to work hard. Being a husband and father has shaped who I am as a person and as a leader, and it is one of the biggest reasons I care so deeply about keeping Brookings County a safe and strong place for families to live, work, and grow.
